It’s that time once again to acknowledge the efforts of Harrison County’s student-athletes. Each week we review the performances of the athletes from the six schools (Bridgeport, Liberty, Lincoln, Notre Dame, Robert C. Byrd, and South Harrison) in our county.
The Shinnston News & Harrison County Journal’s Athlete of the Week award is an avenue to promote the youth of our county while bringing attention to their athletic accomplishments.
The Harrison County athletes in the spotlight this week are Maxx Abruzzino and Aspen Dyer.
Cougar baseball player Maxx Abruzzino returned to the baseball diamond after defeating cancer. In his first game back, Abruzzino had the game winning hit that scored a pair of runs, pushing his team to a seven to six win over Phillip Barbour.
Cougar softball player Aspen Dyer helped her team to a 12 to one win over RCB. Dyer was not only a perfect four of four from the plate, she also hit for the cycle (one of the most difficult accomplishments in sports.) Impressively, she also hit in descending order, hitting a home run, then a triple, followed by a double, and finishing with a single.
Congratulations to Lincoln’s Maxx Abruzzino and Aspen Dyer for shining bright in the SN and HCJ spotlight!
