It’s that time once again to acknowledge the efforts of Harrison County’s student-athletes. Each week we review the performances of the athletes from the six schools (Bridgeport, Liberty, Lincoln, Notre Dame, Robert C. Byrd, and South Harrison) in our county.

The Shinnston News & Harrison County Journal’s Athlete of the Week award is an avenue to promote the youth of our county while bringing attention to their athletic accomplishments.

The Harrison County athletes in the spotlight this week are the Lincoln girls basketball team and Lincoln’s Cole Vincent.

The Lady Cougars upended Moorefield 73 to 46 to earn a trip to the State Tournament. Aundrea Rockwell scored 2 points. Ava McGill netted 21 points. Brystol Toth had 11 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. The trio helped the Cougars advance to Charleston.

Cougar hoopster Cole Vincent, guided his team to a regional win over Moorefield. Vincent netted a game-high 26 points with four three-pointers.

Congratulations to Lincoln’s girls basketball team and Cole Vincent for shining bright in the SN and HCJ spotlight!
