It’s that time once again to acknowledge the efforts of Harrison County’s student athletes. Each week we will review the efforts of both girls and boys from the six schools (Bridgeport, Liberty, Lincoln, Notre Dame, Robert C. Byrd, and South Harrison) in our county.
The Shinnston News & Harrison County Journal Athletes of the week award is an avenue that is used to promote the youth of our community while bringing to attention their athletic accomplishments.
This past weeks winners are Robert C. Byrd’s Karly Cooper and South Harrison’s Chase Jenkins.
Flying Eagle volleyball standout Karly Cooper helped her team to an undefeated 6-0 start. In a pair of quad matches Cooper acquired impressive numbers including 55 points, 46 kills, 20 assists, and 14 aces.
Hawk football player Chase Jenkins helped South Harrison to their first win of the season over Gilmer County. Jenkins accounted for the games first three scores. The first was a 73-yard run, the second was a 47-yard interception return, and the third was a 23-yard run. Jenkins picked up 118 yards on just 6 carries averaging 19.6 yards per attempt.
Congratulations to Robert C. Byrd’s Karly Cooper and South Harrison’s Chase Jenkins for being named the Shinnston News & Harrison County Journal’s Athletes of the Week!
