Janet Sue Nutter

Janet Sue Nutter, 78, of Morgantown, WV and formerly of Wyatt, WV passed away on Sept 1, 2023 peacefully at home. She was born May 10, 1945 in Wyatt, WV (more specifically Dorothy Town / Red Onion) to the late Oscar Elmer and Virginia Jones Heldreth.

She is predeceased by her sister, Barbara Joanne Wagner. Janet is survived by her husband of 57 years, Roy Sterling Nutter, Jr; her son David Sterling Nutter of Morgantown; her daughter, Ann Lynette Nutter (and Eric) Coffman of Silver Spring, MD; her beloved grandson, Cooper Richard Coffman; and several nieces and nephews. Janet grew up in Wyatt and graduated from Shinnston High School in 1963. She became the first person in her family to attend and graduate from college.

While obtaining a BS in Medical Technology from West Virginia University, she met and married her husband, Roy, while still in school. She promised her dad that she would finish her degree even though she was married before she graduated from college. Janet and Roy lived in Morgantown while she worked for WVU Hospital medical laboratories while Roy was in graduate school. In 1972, they moved to Dayton, OH and later to Wichita, KS with Roy as they both began their careers and started a family. While in Wichita, Janet worked for a local medical laboratory. It only took two years for them to miss their families and the hills of West Virginia; they then had the opportunity to return to Morgantown. They’ve now lived at the same residence for 48 years. Janet worked for the Monongalia County Health Department and WVU Hospital until she retired in 1990. Janet then worked part-time for Mylan drug testing laboratories in Morgantown and focused on volunteering opportunities.

Throughout the years, Janet was actively involved in her church and community. She was a long-time member of Suncrest United Methodist Church and the Service League of Morgantown. She and Roy were both long time Disaster Service volunteers of the Red Cross in West Virginia. She was also an avid card player throughout her life. She could often be found playing gin rummy or bridge online and had recently, with great excitement, introduced the game of Hearts to her grandson. Bridge, however, was her favorite game and in later years she played competitively with the regional duplicate bridge group and the local American Contract Bridge League.

Janet peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on Sept 1, 2023. Janet never liked being the center of attention and per her wishes there will be no public services. In lieu of funeral services, and to honor Janet, she wished that donations be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (https://www.jdrf.org/donate/). Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements and online condolences can be made at www.hastingsfuneralhome.com.
