Janie Lynette Gains, 74 of Morgans Run Community, West Union went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, in the United Hospital Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Clarksburg on August 18, 1950, to the late Clarence and Eleanor VanScoy Holtz. On September 4,1970 she married Gerald Bee “Jerry” Gains who preceded her in death on July 6, 2021.
Surviving are two sons, Chad Gains (Victoria), West Union, Shawn Gains (Edwina), Salem, four grandchildren, Stephanie Underwood (Dillon), Zachary Gains (Tara), Elijah and Isaiah Gains, two great granddaughters, Natalie and Naomi Underwood, one great grandson, Kaysn Gains, her siblings, Beverly Hoskinson (Ronnie) Big Flint, Peggy Harrah, Clarksburg, Timmy Holtz (Connie) Clarksburg, Judy Kelley (Ken) Jane Lew and David Holtz (Cindy), Salem. She was preceded in death by one brother- in-law, Robert Steven Harrah.
Janie was a 1969 graduate of Doddridge County High School. She went on to graduate from Flight Attendant School, Hartford Connecticut. Janie and her sister Beverly worked together as waitresses in West Union and as one of the highlights of Janie’s waitress career she waited on actor Martin Sheen when he was in West Union filming “No Guns No Bugles”. Janie also worked as a deputy assessor for Blair Swentzel. She retired from the Doddridge County Farm Service Store with nearly 20 years service.
Janie was blessed with musical ability. She learned to play the guitar and would sing with her siblings at revivals at different churches. Janie was also very athletic. She played basketball, softball and tennis; and enjoyed swimming, walking, riding a bike and mowing grass. During the last few years of her life her favorite activities were petting her kitties, watching her young great grandchildren play and visiting with friends and family. She was a member of the Morgans Run U.B. Church. Janie was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Morgans Run U.B. Church on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 3:00 PM with Pastor Randy Plaugher and Dillon Underwood presiding. There will be a time of gathering one hour prior to her service. The family requests no flowers. Please make contributions to your favorite charity.
