Jenny Santilli Announces For School Board

I’m running for school board because I care for our children and want to ensure they

have the best public education possible. Public education is vital to the well-being of our

society; and, as a concerned citizen, I have a vested interest in preserving it. As a mother of

public school graduates, an educator for 43 years – 39 serving children and colleagues in

Harrison County, a mentor for pre-service and novice teachers, a teacher leader and an

adjunct professor, I know the following needs to happen.

First, we must recruit and retain quality teachers and support staff. County school

systems don’t control state legislation, but we can take concrete measures to show our

employees how valued they are in educating and caring for our children. Employees can be

given more input in how their professional development is structured. We can continue to

give them benefits not provided by the state, such as dental and optical insurance and

payments for out of pocket medical expenses.

Second, more so than in any time in my career, wrap around services for our

children and their families are crucial. Children who are hungry, have chaotic home lives,

have emotional issues or aren’t fluent in English need support to enter the classroom ready

to learn. These needs are more than school employees alone can meet. Thus, we need to

use all available funds and programs to support these children and their families.

Third, the school system provides multiple opportunities for communication with

families. We need to ensure families are aware of these. Open, honest and consistent

communication between schools and families is essential to student success.

I appreciate your support and vote.

consejere soles puedan satisfacer.
