John Henderson, born September 19, 1943, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family. He was the son of the late Henry Henderson and Maxine Cunnginham Henderson Griffith Mangelo. He shared 48 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Virginia Henderson, before her passing in 2013.
John is survived by his three children:Tammy Erpenbeck of Clarksburg, Pamela Revels and husband Randy of Shinnston, and his son, Sammy Henderson and partner Marie Kendall of Shinnston.
John was a proud grandfather to: Chester Robinson and wife Christina of Morgantown, Charles Robinson and wife Emily of Fairmont, Randy Lee Revels Jr. and partner Preston Rice of Buckhannon, Heather Lupo and husband Matthew of Fairmont, Joshua Revels of Fairmont, Steven Revels and fiancée Cassie Wolfgang of Fairmont, Amber Braun and husband John of Richland, Washington, and Sarah Quinn and husband Justin of Four States.
He thought the world of his great-grandchildren: Brayden Robinson, Aaron and Brandon Crossland of Morgantown, Brielle and Maddie Lupo of Fairmont, Izzy Woodson of Wallace, Annabelle Grogg of Meadowbrook, Joseph and Evelyne Revels of Fairmont, Maya and Owen Braun of Richland, Washington, and Hazel, Emma, and Topanga Quinn of Four States.
His memory as a brother will be cherished by his siblings: Richard “Dick” Henderson, Terry Griffith and wife Linda, Harry Griffith and wife Deborah, Jeff Griffith, Stella Mace and husband Bill, Ann Dodd, Jennifer Spurgeon, Helen Davis, Roy Griffith and wife Diane; and Charles Griffith and wife Rita.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Mike Henderson, Albert Henderson, and Inez Cash, and his son-in-law, Russ Erpenbeck.
John took immense joy in being a grandfather and spending time with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren, who always brought a smile to his face. He shared a special bond with his son, Sammy, as they spent countless hours in their garage working on race cars and always being ready for the next race.
He worked at Gear Masters in Illinois until his retirement in 1978.
A celebration of his life will be held at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston from 4-8pm, Tuesday, where funeral services will be held at 10am, Wednesday, September 25th, with Pastor Tim Sandy officiating. All are welcome to share their memories and honor the legacy of a truly remarkable man. Interment will be in the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
