Katherine Marie Shingleton Kesling, age 85, departed this life Wednesday, November 16, 2016, and is now resting in the arms of Jesus.
She was born on September 4, 1931, in Wallace, WV, the daughter of the late Claude and May Glaspell, and was adopted as an infant by the late Kennard and Frankie Shingleton.
In addition, to both sets of parents she was preceded in death by two sisters: Juanita Glaspell and Mildred Powell; three brothers: Gale Glaspel, Charles Glaspell and Paul Glaspell, who gave his life serving his country; and several infant siblings due to the influenza epidemic.
Katherine is survived by three daughters: Sherry Chess and husband Robert of Clarksburg, Carole Jean Cutlip and husband Ralph of Bridgeport and Darlene Cumberledge and husband Keith of Wallace; five grandchildren: Sabrina, Victor, Nathan, Nicholas and Clestine; several great-grandchildren; two brothers: James and Ray Glaspell; as well as several nieces, nehphews and cousins whom she loved very much.
Katherine was a graduate of Lumberport High School and a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church. She enjoyed doing crafts, playing cards and working word and jigsaw puzzles. Katherine worked in several retail shops in Clarksburg and retired from the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. She enjoyed helping others and especially attending family reunions in Wheeling.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Clarksburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their care, as well as the many friends Katherine made while there. A special thanks to Donna Bell, a wonderful caregiver and great friend to Katherine for many years.
