The Lincoln football program has been one of the most consistent programs in the area under the watch of veteran mentor Rob Hawkins. Hawkins has guided the Cougars to the playoffs in four of the last five seasons and this year they are loaded – with Bear!
Lincoln returns all but two starters on both sides of the ball and there is a new sheriff in town in signal caller Bear Saab. Saab, a junior, spent last season in a Robert C. Byrd uniform and replaces three-year starter A. J. Bart. The quarterback position has some depth in Shinnston. According to Hawkins, senior standout receiver Jacob Bart is a more-than-capable quarterback, but with Saab there, it keeps the receiving corps intact. Hawkins has been impressed with Saab’s development as he mentioned that his confidence grows every day.
The offensive unit consists of all upperclassmen. “This is the most veteran team we have had in a long time,” explained Hawkins. “We are very experienced and our depth is better than we have had it in the past couple of years.” This experience coupled with the big play capability of the skilled players and the consistency of the bigs up front should help Saab ease into the offense.
Along with Bart on the outside are a trio of seniors. Brody Barnes, Colton Edwards, and Chasen Sipher spearhead the downfield air attack. Senior left ends Braiden Minor and Brayden Herrod will also be targets this season.
The entire offensive line returns from a year ago. The senior is Joe Spadafore. The guards are junior Dom Spadafore and senior Brycen Moore. The tackles are junior Gavin Jenkins and senior Levi Greaver. Senior Jayden Thompson will also see action on the line this year.
The backfield is led by returning starter Conner Rice. The senior is joined by juniors Cade Mooney and Trent Moore to form a talented trio of running backs for Hawkins.

On the defensive side of the ball there are several players that are looking to earn playing time. “There are a lot of battles going on right now. I love the way our guys are flying around.” This healthy competition is making everyone better and at the same time the Cougars are improving their depth.
The defensive tackles are Brycen Moore and Greaver. The defensive end spot is deep with Review and add the missing fifth player, or change ‘five’ to ‘four’ The linebackers are Trent Moore, Mooney, and Rice with junior Isaiah Ice in the competition. The cornerbacks are senior Brody Anderson and junior Eli Ice. The safeties are Edwards and Bart.
Hawkins leads an impressive coaching staff and with 43 players out, including 18 returning starters, there are high hopes in Shinnston!
Look for Lincoln to have another strong season as a second consecutive playoff appearance is on the line!
