Rebekah Grand Lodge #47 is hosting a fundraiser for West Virginia’s veterans, “Socks For Vets.”

The organization, which has served Shinnston for 128 years, is asking for donations in the form of both new men’s socks of all kinds and sizes, as well as monetary donations to purchase additional socks.

Debby Starkey, Noble Grand for the lodge and the director of Lowe Public Library, said this is an important fundraiser, and the lodge strives to remember veterans not only on Veterans Day, but throughout the year.

“We will give to our local veteran’s hospital and Rebekah Grand Lodge to be distributed… I just want to make sure they know it’s going to be distributed locally and to Grand Lodge, which is in West Virginia,” said Starkey.

Those wishing to donate may drop off donations at Lowe Public Library at 40 Bridge St., or Shinnston City Hall at 40 Main St. Please make any checks payable to Rebekah Lodge #47.

Rebekah Lodges are known for sponsoring the annual Pilgrimage for Youth, a program that promotes “friendship, love and truth,” according to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows website, the Living Legacy tree planting program, and the annual “Pilgrimage to the Tomb” where a representative from each state lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, among other activities.
