BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Fairmont State men’s basketball team was selected third in the 2023-24 Mountain East Conference Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll released on Wednesday (Oct. 25) afternoon.
Fairmont State finished the 2022-23 season with a 24-8 overall record and earned a bid to the NCAA National Tournament for the fifth-consecutive season. The Falcons scored an average of 92.1 points per game, which was the fourth-highest average out of all Division II schools. Returning to the floor for the Falcons is 2023 All-MEC Honorable Mention and 2023 All-MEC Tournament Team honoree Zyon Dobbs. Starters David Jolinder and Seth Younkin also return for Fairmont State for the 2023-24 season.
After a trip to the 2023 NCAA National Championship Game, West Liberty has been picked as the MEC preseason favorites and tallied eight first-place votes. Charleston was listed second in the poll and received three first-place votes. The Falcons finished five points behind UC for third place. The top three schools netted at least 85 points in the poll. West Virginia State took fourth at 66 points and Davis & Elkins finished just behind the Yellow Jackets with 65 points.
The Fairmont State men’s basketball team kicks off the 2023-24 season at the Joe Retton Classic held inside Joe Retton Arena. The Falcons will battle Bloomsburg in Fairmont on Friday, Nov. 10 at 5:30 p.m.
