 “Briefs” is a calendar of events listing provided free of charge to churches and non-profit organizations.  Items will be published one time only and will be listed in the order in which they occur.  Please submit your ‘briefs’ two weeks prior to the event. BRIDGEPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY

Teen Game: Rummikub on February 27th from 6 pm to 8 pm• Story Time – Fridays at 10:30 am for children under the age of three • Contact Amy at the library at 304-842-8248 for information or to register.

 

SOUP BEAN LUNCHEON

There will be a Soup Bean luncheon at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 70 Rebecca St., Shinnston on Sunday, February 26 at 12:00 PM. Menu: Soup Beans, cornbread, hot dogs, drink and dessert.  Cost is $6 to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.  For more info contact 304-592-0232.

 

LOWE PUBLIC LIBRARY DVD DRIVE

The Lowe Public Library, 40 Bridge St., Shinnston is currently having a DVD drive. All types of DVDs will be accepted but no VHS – please!  Items can be dropped off at the library.  For more information call 304-592-1700.

 

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 872

Knights of Columbus Council 872 will hold its regular meeting on Monday, February 27th at 7:30 pm at the Robert  Petitto Hall, 334 East Pike St., Clarksburg. All members are urged to attend and all Catholic men 18 and older who are practicing Catholics are invited to join. Please contact Doug White  at 304-669-0631 with any questions.

 

GRAND PERFORMANCES – CHERISH THE LADIES

The Cultural Foundation will be presenting A Celtic Celebration with “Cherish The Ladies” at the Robert C. Byrd High School Theater on Thursday, March 2nd at 7:30 pm.  Tickets available on line at THECULTURALFOUNDATION.ORG.  For more information call 304-669-7045.

 

WINGS OF HOPE MEETING

Wings of Hope will host an informational meeting at Panera Bread on Monday, March 6th at 6 pm.  Come join us to learn more about Wings of Hope and how you can help us raise money for local cancer patients.  100% of the money raised stays at UHC to help local patients.

 

LENTEN SERVICE

Lenten Services will be held at first United Methodist Church in Shinnston at noon on Wednesday, March 1st with Pastor Kevin Nuzum of First Baptist Church residing.  A love offering will be received to further the work of the Shinnston Area Council of Churches.  Those attending are invited to partake of fellowship and a soup luncheon following the service.  Reverend Cindy Boggs will hold Bible Study prior to the Lenten Service at 11 am in Epworth Center.

 

UNDERSTAND SPECIAL EDUCATION WORKSHOP

A FREE course “Understanding Special Education Workshop” will be held on Monday, March 27th from 6 pm to 8 pm at South Harrison Middle School.  To register or for more information call 304-326-7692 or email hcperc@yahoo.com.

 

 “HOW TO SURVIVE PARENTING”

PERC will be having a seven week series of parenting classes at United High School (formerly Gore Middle School) from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm on the following Tuesdays – February 21,28 and March 7,14,21,18 and April 4th. To register contact PERC at 304-326-7692 or 304-326-7693. A Certificate of Completion will be awarded for attending all classes.

 

STEP UP FOR WOMEN

Step Up for Women is actively interviewing for an 11-week construction training class.  The program will prepare students for jobs in the skilled trades and union apprenticeship.  The program is completely grant funded so there is absolutely no cost to students.  Classes begin March 6, 2017.  To complete the application process you may go online to www.wvwomenwork.org/stepup or for a paper application you may call Misty Nicholas at 304-598-0114.

 

CELEBRATE RECOVERY-SHINNSTON

‘Celebrate Recovery’ meets every Thursday at 6:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Shinnston. Everyone is welcome.

 

BEEKEEPERS SHORT COURSE

The WV Beekeepers Assoc. is having a beginner beekeeping course in Bruceton Mills in February on 3 consecutive Saturdays (4th, 11th, and 18th from 10-2) at The Little Sandy Nazarene church.  The cost is $50 per individual and $70 per couple. You must attend all three classes to complete the course.    This includes your instruction, the Penn State Beginner beekeeping class book and a 1 year membership with the WV state Beekeepers Assoc. CELEBRATE RECOVERY

A Christ-centered 12-step program for any hurt, habit or hang-up meets every Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Horizons Church in Lost Creek.  Offers childcare (birth to 4 yrs.) and Celebration Station (ages 5-13) and The Landing for older teens.  For more information, call 304-745-5090.
