No Problem Springing Ahead With Warm Weather on the Horizon

I have put a lot of thought into this week’s column and thought that maybe I should not write it but it was still heavy on my mind so here it goes.

The subject that I want to talk about is Daylight Savings Time. Since it came in last Sunday there seems to a lot of talk wherever I go. I cannot seem to understand why it affects people in a negative way. I have traveled a lot crossing time zones and I never seemed to be affected by the time changes.

Last Sunday, the only thought that I had was that I would forget if I had changed the time and then I would miss mass. So I knew that my phone and iPad would automatically change and then I could change my clocks. all at once. I went to breakfast after mass and my waitress advised us that she was having a. Little problem with the time change. After I got home I thought about this and I thought that if you have this problem, you know all year that time changes on the first Sunday in March so why not start the end of February adjusting your sleep pattern by 15 or 20 minutes each night and by Sunday you will be right on time feeling great. Another suggestion is have one clock in your home on Daylight time for a week before it actually changes and see how your schedule adheres to the new time.

I know that many of you are going to say that many scientific studies have been done and there are really those who the time change does affect and I will accept this but I firmly believe that we can help ourselves adjust to this change without it affecting our lifestyle. If it really affects your life, then it would be worth the extra effort to make a few adjustments on your own.

Well here it is and I have finally said it.

The great thing about Daylight Savings time is that Spring is just around the corner. Now is the time to visit the garden centers and decide just what plants you will be setting out. If you have indoor space you can start your plants, especially your vegetables. The best plant to get started now is your basil. It can stay in the pot all season.

Another thing that you can get started on is the little projects that need done around your home. The first thing I have to get done is the painting of the deck. I have a few fence posts that need replaced and I see some overhang that needs replaced. I am anxious to get started.

Happy Daylight Savings Time and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
