Patricia “Patty” Ann Sampson, 89, of Lumberport, passed away on June 14, 2026 at her daughter’s home. She was born in Pine Bluff on March 20, 1937 to the late Russell Lowell Anderson and Effie Pearle (Sandy) Anderson.

Patty enjoyed many things in life. She loved doing crafts and decorating her church with her daughter, Janie. She was the past president of Harrison County Association of Historical Society of WV, past president of Colonial Daughters of American Revolution, past president and devotional leader of COES of Pine Bluff and a 55-year member. Patty belonged to Jones Run Church for 48 years where she served in many offices. Also, she was Harrison County COES Belle when she was 72 years old. She was always for the ‘underdog’ and thought there was a little good in everyone. Her childhood dreams were of a large family like the one she was raised in. She almost filled that dream with four sons, one daughter and helping raise Bobby, her hard headed Amie, Lacy – her soul mate, Maddie and of course, Missie Pooh. She was known by most as “Nunny.”

Patty is survived by her husband, Roy Sampson of Lumberport; one daughter, Janie Hardesty and companion Kevin Arbogast of Lumberport; four sons: Roy Lee Sampson of Lumberport; Jamie Sampson and wife Liz of Lumberport, Jeff Sampson and companion Wendy of Lumberport and Tracie Sampson and wife Tracey of Lumberport; fourteen grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Patty is preceded in death by one brother, Jack Sandy Anderson; three half-brothers: Burton Russell Anderson, William Lowell Anderson and Robert Johnson Anderson; one half-sister, Kaye Stevens; one granddaughter, Amie Sampson; two great granddaughters: Madison Bosley and Anniston Greathouse; one great great granddaughter, Maylee Sampson; one great grandson, Raymond Eggleston and one son in law, Harlan “Butch” Hardesty.

Family and friends will be received at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike St., Shinnston, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 for visitation from 2:00PM until 8:00PM. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 11:00AM with Pastor Tom Bell officiating. Interment to Pine Bluff Cemetery.

Dorsey Funeral Home is honored to be handling the arrangements for the Sampson family.
