Rachel Randolph of Bridgeport was crowned the new champion of the Annual Bridgeport Kiwanis Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, July 2, at Deegan and Hinkle Lakes. She took top honors by hauling in a derby record 14.5 inch largemouth bass.
First Runner up was Avery Blankenship of Lost Creek, and Second Runner up was Cale Culicerto of Bridgeport. A record 14 youth participated and fish were caught by all but two.
Participants in order of registration were: Orlando Riley and Aidric Riley of Bridgeport, Bre Howell; Bridgeport, Paisley Woofter and Tyler Woofter; Bridgeport, Sawyer Culicerto; Bridgeport, Alex and Aiden Blankenship; Lost Creek, Andrew Randolph; Bridgeport, and Ethan and Evan Rose, also of Bridgeport.
Prizes were awarded based on number and size of fish caught. Susan Lawrence, President, and Rich Bailey were Co-chairs.
This project was in honor of Michael Benedum, Benefactor of Bridgeport. Lawrence complimented the City of Bridgeport for the excellent upkeep of the lakes, and the Bridgeport Fire Department who stocks the lakes. “It was a good morning. The fish were biting, and everyone went home with a prize based on performance. It was good Family Fun” stated Lawrence.
