Richard Hunter, 68, of Meadowbrook, West Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on July 16, 2025. Born on August 5, 1956, in California, Richard led a life defined by service, devotion, and unwavering love for his family.

A proud veteran, Richard served four years in the United States Air Force as a navigator with the RED HORSE Squadron. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to public service, retiring from the state of West Virginia.

Richard’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Kimberly Hunter; his children Rebecca Hunter, Barbara Thacker, and Heather and Terry Grogg; his two brothers Russell and Donna Hunter and Rodney and Nancy Hunter; Brother and Sister in Law Bill and Tammy Dennis, and his cherished grandchildren Audre, Conner, Brooke, Cameron (Hannah) and Colin. He is also remembered by many extended family and friends who were touched by his kindness and strength.

Richard was preceded by his parents, Mary “Nip” Hunter and Coy Hunter, and by his sister, Vera Martin.

He found joy in family vacations, moments spent with his grandchildren, and caring for those around him-always putting the needs of others before his own. His quiet strength, steady presence, and deep love for his family will be remembered always.

Friends will be received at Harmer Funeral Home on Monday, July 21, 2025 from 11:00AM-1:00PM. A funeral service will follow at 1:00PM with Pastor Dan Adkins officiating. Interment will be at the West Virginia National Cemetery.
