Ruby G. Carpenter, 96, of Nutter Fort, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Fazio’s Elder Care in Monongah. She was born April 23, 1928 in Newville, WV, a daughter of the late Ernest B. and Maud Groff Stewart.
On August 23, 1994, Ruby was preceded in death by her loving husband, Buddy F. Carpenter, whom she married on April 7, 1947.
She is survived by her adoring and devoted family; her son, Craig L. Carpenter and his wife Debbie of Lumberport; her daughter, Roxie (Williams) Nicholson and her husband Frank of Shinnston; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren; as well as her sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Stewart of Cortland, OH; and Dorothy Carpenter of Nutter Fort; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Nadine Carpenter who died in a motorcycle accident on July 1, 2000; her infant daughter; two brothers, Victor “Bud” Stewart and his wife Barbara; and Buster “Jack” Stewart; as well as her sister, Lena Griffith.
Ruby was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was protestant by faith and a member of the Center Branch Church of Nutter Fort. She will be remembered as being the “Hat Lady of Clarksburg” by always sporting a hat to match any outfit. Ruby enjoyed sewing, crafting and working puzzles. She was also a die-hard collector of Avon products and Beanie Babies. Ruby loved playing BINGO. She enjoyed playing at Village Square, Knights of Columbus, and Immaculate Conception Church.
The family would like to extend a thanks to the members of the Nutter Fort Fire Department for their dedicated response to every trip of the medical alarm that Ruby wore around her neck. She loved them and knew them all by name. Ruby also received excellent medical care from her primary-care provider and close friend, Traci Tannehill and her caring nurse, Kim St. Clair. As well as the always affectionate care afforded to Ruby by WV Caring Hospice, especially her nurse, Maggie; and the staff of Serenity Hope in Lost Creek and Olivia Colvin and staff of Fazio’s Elder Care in Monongah.
Friends will be received at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston, on Sunday from 12-5pm. A funeral service will be held that evening at 5:00pm with Pastor Jim Sanders officiating. Immediately following the service, a dinner will be provided at the American Legion Post 31 in Shinnston. A private interment will take place on Monday at the Lumberport Lions Club Cemetery.
