LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania – After a successful weekend hosting in Morgantown, the Salem men’s water polo team spent this weekend in competition at the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Salem pulled away with 3 well earned wins, and each contest played out as follows:

Salem 18, Mercyhurst 4

In the first contest of the weekend, Salem took on fellow WWPA program Mercyhurst in a non-conference contest. Salem dominated the game from the opening whistle, and quickly cruised to the 18-4 win. On the scorer’s sheet, Nikola Krstonosic led Salem offensively with 8 goals and 6 assists. Ivan Zivojinovic added 5 goals as well. Defensively, Duarte Costa and Goncalo Silva combined for 16 saves.

Salem 16, Mount Saint Mary’s 8

On Sunday morning, Salem took on Mount Saint Mary’s in the second contest of the weekend. Ivan Zivojinovic had the strongest performance for the Tigers as he scored 9 of the 16 Tigers goals. Nikola Krstonosic added 5 goals as well.

Salem 14, Wagner 10

In the final contest of the event, Salem had their toughest task of the weekend with the Wagner Seahawks. Despite trailing early, Salem recovered and took control of the game in the second half. That big second half drove the Tigers to a hardfought 14-10 win. Offensively, Nikola Krstonosic led the Tigers with 5 goals.  Antonio Sablic and Ivan Zivojinovic were just behind him in scoring with 4 goals a piece.

After this dominant performance at Bucknell, Salem will be primed to return to the home waters of the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park on Saturday and Sunday, September 23rd and 24th. They will be playing Penn State Behrend, Washington and Jefferson, and the United States Naval Academy acoss two days of competition.
