Janet Dotson called the Shinnston senior citizens meeting to order on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 at the American Legion building. Before that, we had our games of bingo and special treats.
Our meeting started with the pledge to our flag and singing the national anthem. Elaine had our devotions for us for the last time this month; Mary Stutler will be doing them for the month of March. Brenda Nestor, Bette Baughman, Jo Smith, Patsy Benson, Janet’s grandsons wife, Connie Perkins, Tom Greaver, Tom Claypoole, Kim Andrick, Bernard Jones, Tim Perine, Judy Asel, the whole senior group(everyone had something wrong with them one way or another), our country, our president, and leaders here and abroad( that they seek wisdom from God and the right people) are all on our prayer list for this week and every week.
We had no business to take care of, just a few announcements. There will be a luncheon at the Clarksburg senior building March 16th. We will discuss that this coming week and make plans. We are also accepting memberships for 2017 … $8.00 per year. Call Janet to join or just show up on Fridays and we will take care of that for you. We celebrated Pauline Reed’s upcoming birthday by singing Happy Birthday to her. She also received a rose, card, large candy bar and a small cake. May she have many more!
We had baked steak, gravy and mashed potatoes for our lunch, along with a great variety of food from our members…once again, a wonderful meal and fellowship. Before we ate, Tom asked the blessing over the food. Navonda, Jean H. and Nannette were our kitchen crew… Thank you girls. Next week will be pot luck with volunteers in the kitchen. The cake bakers will be Janet, Deloris and Enith.
Mary Stutler won the bingo coverall this week. The last time she won was Oct. 23, 2015 – a long time to wait to win again. The luck of the draw, you might say. Our 50/50 drawing winner was Stanley; guess jars – Tom and Louie and our 1st door prize – Mary Stutler (Her lucky day).
Members attending this meeting were Richard Murray, Enith Wright, William and Navonda Hayhurst, Pauline Reed, Joan Whiteman, Mary Stutler, Paul Shaver, Jean Hornick, Stanley McIntire, Tom Greaver, Vivian Brown, Deloris Minor, Libby Butcher, Nannnette Hixon, Nancy Davis, Elaine and Louie Veltri, Donna Yelilch, Sylvia Duckworth, Billie Allen and Janet Dotson. Bette Baughman stopped in with her cake but couldn’t stay. Joyce Miker came in late to tell us about her new grandson named Bear; she was excited. There were only 5 or 6 of us left to tell.
The thought for the week – The True Measure Of Success – author unknown. 1) To be able to carry money without spending it. 2) To be able to bear an injustice without retaliating. 3) To be able to do one’s duty when critical eyes watch. 4) To be able to keep at a job until it is finished. 5) To be able to do the work and let others receive the recognition. 6) To be able to accept criticism without letting it whip you. 7) To like those who push you down. 8) To love when hate is all about you. 9) To follow God when others put detour signs in your path. 10) To have a peace of heart and mind because you have given God your best. THIS IS THE TRUE MEASURE OF SUCCESS. (The Vender – FEB. 15, 2017). Hope to see you next week.
