Yard sales offer a win/win situation for both the seller and the buyer. The seller can free up space in their home by getting rid of items they no longer use or wear … while making a little extra cash. And for the buyer, it is an opportunity to search for some bargains (!), which might include anything from clothing to shoes, to toys, books, tools, jewelry, furniture, small appliances – who knows what treasures you might find!
If you’re interested in hosting such a sale, start going through your clutter! Or if you’d rather browse through someone else’s goods, plan to head to Shinnston neighborhoods this Saturday, July 25th. This day typically draws large crowds. As a friendly reminder, when you’re shopping in neighborhoods, please be courteous and refrain from blocking driveways!
Last year, Shinnston City Council changed the date for this activity from the first Saturday in August to the last Saturday in July to avoid conflicts with sales taking place in neighboring communities.
IF by chance, you live outside the City limits, the Greenspace in the downtown area (corner of Pike & Main streets) is available for set-ups too. Bring your items, tables, canopies if you wish, and set up free of charge; however, know that it is first-come, first-served to occupy a space there. When spaces are all taken, they’re gone – so plan on an early arrival!
If you miss the City-wide sale the end of July, the Woman’s Club of Shinnston will be hosting their annual sale on both Friday and Saturday, the 7th & 8th of August from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on both days at their clubhouse on lower Bridge Street. If you stop in there, when you leave, be sure to drive just around the block, because unless torrential rain would prohibit it, the Shinnston Lions Club plans to be selling mops and brooms on Saturday, August 8th in front of Alpha Tint (corner of Pike and Rebecca Sts.)
While you’re in town, be sure to check along Pike Street to see if some of the local merchants might be having sidewalk sales.
