Shirley Jean (Tate) Elbon of Erie, WV, went to be the Lord on May 7, 2026 at 2:20pm with friends and family by her side.
She was born June 10, 1958 to the late Mary Jo and Frankie Tate, Jr. of Meadowbrook, WV.
She worked at Amerdyne East (9 years), K Mart (22 years) where she had many fond memories and made many lifelong friendships, and caregiving for several elderly that she loved and adored and whom loved her. She loved camping, sitting by a campfire, spending time with her daughter, grandkids and husband, thrift shopping, antique dolls and glassware. She was a very loving, caring and giving person.
Shirley is survived by her loving and devotional husband Phillip L. Elbon whom she married May 30, 1989. Shirley is also survived by their children “Apple of her eye and Babygirl” Ashlyn (Nicholas) Minnick of Spelter, Phillip L. Elbon, II (Barbi) of Flemington, Tacy Goldsmith (Jimmy) of Maryland. Along with seven grandchildren: Katie (Luke) Barker, Colt Elbon, Mia Goldsmith, Aubrey, Jaclyn, Carson, and Remington Minnick; one great grandson, Calvin Theodore Barker. She loved her grandchildren beyond this world and is what she lived for. She is also survived by two sisters, Nancy (Rod) Tate and Bonnie Menedez; several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters in law. Shirley is also survived by four sister friends whom she treasured beyond measures: Pam Deem (62 years), Pauline Shuttlesworth, Linda Danges and Fran Issacs.
She was met at Heavens gates by her parents; brother, Frank “Skip” Tate; sister, Lisa Dawn Tate; nephews: Franke Tate and Dennis Elbon, II; great niece, Megan Jo Tucker as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A special thank you to her granddaughter, Aubrey, whom never left her side. Pam Cecil, Julia Way, Mia Tucker and her sisters, Bonnie and Nancy, for such good and loving care.
Family and friends will be received for visitation at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike St., Shinnston, on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 2:00PM until the time of service 7:00PM with Pastor Jimmy Glasspell officiating. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, she will be cremated.
