Lost Creek, West Virginia (Friday, April 5th, 2024) –

The first Harrison County FFA Ham, Bacon and Egg Show since the early 1950s was held at South Harrison High School last Friday. FFA members from across the county submitted Country Cured Hams, Bacons and Farm Fresh Eggs for quality judging and placing by Judge – Steve Tennant, FFA Advisor at Taylor County Technical Education Center. Hams and bacons from student raised pork were processed, salt cured, and dry aged at South Harrison High School’s Meat and Poultry Science Facility. The sale was auctioneered by James Yoder of Kaufman Realty & Auctions, Bridgeport West Virginia. The sale consisted of 11 country cured hams, bacons and eggs.

Students exhibiting grand champion items were:

Spencer Nolan – South Harrison FFA, Grand and Reserve Champion Hams, Emma Hitt – South Harrison FFA, Grand and Reserve Champion Bacons, Jaden Stutler – United High School FFA, Grand Champion Eggs, and Elena Medina – South Harrison FFA, Reserve Champion Eggs. The sale totaled $12,050.00 for the 11 members whose items placed in the show, with hams averaging $406.82, bacon at $472.73, and eggs at $215.91.
