The Stonewood CEOS club met at the Congregational Missionary Church fellowship hall. The meeting was called to order by President Ladonna Tucker and members welcomed. A candle was lit in memory of the deceased members. Devotions entitled “Mornings with Jesus” were read by Terri Jo Boyers. Members present were Ladonna Tucker, Deloris Wilson, Estella Farnsworth, Lesita Snider, Eva Summers, Terri Jo Boyers, April Stout and Willa Jean Green.

Members recited the American and WV flag salutes. Treasurer’s report given by Ladonna in the absence of treasurer Pam Cowdrey; it was accepted to be filed for audit. Minutes of last meeting were read and accepted as read. Terri Jo had the lesson today entitled Happy, Healthy Hobbies. Some examples of hobbies of our members include Reading, word search, and crossword puzzles which aid in improving our cognitive health. Walking, swimming, and yoga for example can improve our stamina and physical health. Terri also brought an assortment of fresh fruits for a healthy snack and led members in leg raises to strengthen calf muscles.

Committee reports: Family; April will be collecting duffle bags, small suitcases, and backpacks to be donated the the Genesis Center for children who are discharged to use for their clothes and other belongings. A member of the church that works at the center will deliver them; they will be greatly appreciated.

Continuing education chair Eva reminded members of the short story, poems, and photo entrance deadlines of August 1st. Deloris gave a book report entitled A Mother’s Gift by Charlotte Hubbard; if you’re looking for a good read, please check it out. We are putting finishing touches on our throw to be donated to the Stonewood VFD for a raffle at the annual Firefighter’s festival in August. We are very proud of how it turned out. You could be the lucky winner, you never know.

Show and share today was brought by Eva; a handmade Betsy Rabbit doll, it was very pretty and meticulously made; Deloris brought a mid-century metal meat/ cheese slicer and Terri brought samples of different types of adult bibs that she made which were very pretty, we plan to make several different styles to be donated to local nursing homes. Willa Jean, health motivator reminded us to be cognizant of ticks and mosquitoes this summer; they can cause serious illnesses. Standing water in bird baths, flower pots and gutters are examples that attractive to mosquitoes. Wear long pants and long sleeves whenever possible and treat yourself with insect repellant to prevent getting ticks and mosquito bites. Always check your pets for ticks when they have been outside.

New business: A motion was made by April Stout and seconded by Terri Jo Boyers to retain the present club officers for another year. We will make plans to invite a visiting club later this year. Reminders: County picnic July 6 @6pm; bring cleaning items for donation ; be sure to bring your Blue yearbook to next meeting.

We collected 21 boxes of Hamburger Helper and 24 packages of Ramen Noodles for donation to the Mustard Seed today; next month donation will be cans of Manwich.

Next meeting will be on July 20th. Be careful being out in the heat, stay hydrated, don’t exert yourself, and don’t get overheated. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable summer.
