The Stonewood CEOS club met at the Congregational Missionary Church Annex on Nov 13

  1. Members were welcomed by President Deloris Wilson. Roll taken by Secretary; present

were Deloris Wilson, Ladonna Tucker, Jan Johnson, Estella Farnsworth, Lesita Snider, Eva

Summers, Darlene Francis, April Stout and Betty Shreves. A candle was lit in memory of our

deceased members and devotions read by April Stout from Our Daily Bread entitled “In God’s

Hands”. April also led the members in the salutes to the American and WV flags. Minutes of

last meeting were read by secretary Estella Farnsworth and accepted as read. Treasurer’s

report was given by treasurer Jan Johnson and filed. April Stout had the lesson today entitled

“The Life of West Virginia’s Wild and Wonderful Serena Katherine Dandridge”. Ms Dandridge

also known by her nickname Violet was born in Shepherdstown WV in 1878. She and her

brother Stephen and sister Dorothea were raised on their family Estate called Rose Blake. She

moved to Washington DC when she was 18 and was hired by the Smithsonian Institute as a

scientific illustrator. After a lifetime spent advocating for social justice and environmental

causes, she died on Nov 7, 1956 at the age of 78. She contributed to the way we understand

science and biology today.

April Stout head of Family committee, will check with the local nursing home to see if we can

set up some activities for the male residents; presently we visit twice a month to read to the

residents and reminisce, these sessions are usually attended by the ladies there. President

Deloris Wilson sent several Book titles to the state chairman of purposeful reading to be

considered for the reading list. April also gave a book report on the book “Quiet Dell” about the

infamous Harry Powers that shocked our area in the 1930s. She also went to the screening of

the movie at the Robinson Grand, and tour of the “Murder Farm” in Quiet Dell. She said it was

quite interesting. Our club will be participating in the Salvation Angel tree at the mall this

November and December. We hope there will be a great turnout for a great cause. Also we will

participate in the Stonewood Christmas parade again this year. Hopefully the weather will be

nice and there will be a great turnout; the parade is always a beautiful event for the community.

Ladonna, Lesita, April, and Estella attended Fun and games day at St. Marks Church on Nov 3,

we had a good time and look forward to the next one. Our club furnished breakfast snacks and

beverages for the County Council meeting on Nov 6 with Deloris, Ladonna, Estella, Lesita, April

and Barb attending. On Tuesday, 12/5 we will have our Christmas luncheon and card exchange

at Minards.

We collected 114 packages of Ramen Noodles today for the Mustard Seed food pantry.

Deloris brought a 35 year old (1988 )YWCA cookbook for heritage. She stated that she has

made many recipes from it; and she even bought another copy that she happened to run

across. Meeting was adjourned. We will be having our Thanksgiving luncheon at FOP

immediately following the meeting.

Books read this month totaled 11 and CVH were 554.5

From our club to all…We hope everyone had a Happy, Healthy Thanksgiving!
