The Stonewood CEOS club met at the Congregational Missionary Church Annex on Jan 15 2024 . Members were welcomed by President Deloris Wilson.

Present were Ladonna Tucker, Deloris Wilson, April Stout, Darlene Francis, Jan Johnson, Willa Jean Green and Estella Farnsworth. A candle was lit in memory of our deceased members. Devotions read were entitled “Worry Less and enjoy Life” It suggests that we spend a few quiet moments with God each morning to start our day.

Members recited the pledge to the American and West Virginia flags in unison. Willa Jean Green led members in the songs “God Bless America” and “My Country Tis of Thee.”

Minutes of last meeting were read by secretary Estella Farnsworth, they were accepted as read. Treasurers report given by Treasurer Jan Johnson and will be filed. The lesson originally scheduled for Dec was taught today by Estella Farnsworth.

The title of the lesson was “The Possibilities of Plants” which focused on the many different herbs and plants that can be used in numerous ways, such as medicinal purposes, air purifiers, essential oils, and building materials, examples are Vanilla Grass, American Lotus, and dogwood.

Noteworthy is that in 1976, the FDA made it illegal to sell sassafras tea, its roots, or the oil because of safrole which is a carcinogen that causes liver cancer.

Committee reports included the change that there will be no nursing home visits until further notice. We will be checking on ways to participate in the Stonewood Firemen’s Festival this summer.

Health Motivator Willa Jean Green led members in an arm/shoulder exercise. A motion was made by Jan Johnson to publish Club news quarterly instead of monthly; 2nd by April Stout. April also gave a good book report entitled “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” by Mitch Albon. It is a very interesting work of fiction. We received a very nice thank you card from The Mustard Seed showing appreciation for the donations that we made monthly throughout the year.

We collected 77 packages of Ramen Noodles for the Mustard Seed this month and 21 packages of snack crackers for the VA brown bag snacks today. On Nov 16 Deloris, Lesita, Estella, Eva, Darlene, Ladonna and April attended the 2023 Achievement and Demonstration Day.

Darlene received her new member pin and Betty Shreve was awarded her 20 yr pin. The club did not have a meeting in December but we had a Christmas luncheon and card exchange at Minards on Dec 5th. Program Assistant John Wickline was present today to install the 2024 incoming officers.

2024 officers are as follows: President; Ladonna Tucker, Vice President; Deloris Wilson, Secretary; Estella Farnsworth, and Treasurer, Jan Johnson. Plans were made for the club to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a luncheon at FOP on Monday Feb 12 at noon. Meeting was adjourned. Total club CVH for 2023 were 4000

Happy Valentine’s Day to all ….
