The Stonewood CEOS met at the Congregational Missionary Church fellowship hall on April 21, 2025. President Ladonna Tucker called meeting to order and welcomed members; Deloris Wilson, Estella Farnsworth, Pam Cowdry, Lesita Snider, Eva Summers, Willa Jean Green, and visitor Terri Jo Boyer who has applied for club membership. Devotions entitled One Day at a Time were read by Estella Farnsworth who also led the members in reciting the American and WV flag salutes. Willa Jean Green led us in singing The Star Spangled Banner.

Minutes of last meeting were read by secretary Estella Farnsworth and accepted as read, Treasurer’s report was given by treasurer Pam Cowdry and filed. Estella Farnsworth taught the lesson today; it was entitled Your Grand-son’s not in jail; Scams Targeting Senior Citizens.

Seniors are often targeted for reasons like; living alone, health issues; particularly mental health decline; or not being tech savvy. Telephone scams are most prevalent; such as scammers calling to inform a senior that their grandchild or other love one is in jail and you need to send bail money by gift card; scammers will impersonate a loved one to make it sound authentic; never send money as requested, instead call your love one or family member to see if the call is authentic. Also, never give personal information such as birth date, social security number, or any type of banking information.

The best action is just hang up.

Also beware of fraudulent emails and text messages; never click any links or call any phone numbers listed.

Eva Summers suggested a book on the reading list; Spanish Sunrise; she said it is a good read. She also encouraged that we do Show and Share at our meetings.

Membership and Marketing: We are pleased to see our club articles published in the local newspapers; also, Terri Jo Bowers has applied to become a member, we are very pleased to welcome her. We have plans to make a WV throw /quilt to be raffled off at the Stonewood Fireman’s Festival this summer. Health motivator Willa Jean Green gave information on milk allergies and sensitivities. Always check food ingredients for milk before eating or drinking. A great substitute for cow’s milk is Goat milk. She also led group in a balance exercise while walking a straight line; it ‘s harder that you think! On April 18, Willa Jean, Estella, April, Pam, and David Wilson attended an Earth Day event at The Clarksburg Classical Academy; we were treated to a demonstration by beekeepers on how honey is made; we also donated birdseed so the students can fill bird feeders and observe the birds.

New business ; inviting a visiting club this year, and a motion was made by Ladonna and 2nd by Lesita to send cheer gift cards to servicemen that are stationed with Pam’s son. Heritage brought by Willa Jean was a beautiful footed glass bowl that her grandmother kept on her dresser; it is at least 70 yrs old and was made at a Weston WV glass factory, and Deloris shared an album given to her by children of her 1995 Germany trip which was absolutely beautiful.
