B3 Styles, owned and operated by Shannon Kellar, has been in business since 2019 in the downtown Shinnston area. On Thursday, June 18th, she celebrated a “Grand Opening” following her latest move to 223 Pike Street, just a few steps away from her former location. It’s not that she particularly enjoys the moving process, but it was an easy move since the available space was so close by and offered her the extra room she needed.
Initially a stay-at-home mom, Shannon says she began selling jewelry through in-home sales gatherings. “I enjoyed meeting with women and building relationships. Friendships were formed and, being a positive environment for all of us, we created a connection,” she said. “This fed something in me and gave me confidence … and it just seemed to grow. Having my own business also allowed me to work hours that have granted me time at home to be with my children. And the wonderful friends I’ve made have been an incredible support system; they are there to lend a hand when I need it and I seriously doubt that I could have done so well without them.”
Shannon is pleased with her new location (the former long-time home of the Shinnston News) and the changes and updates that it offers. The drop ceiling had been removed and the original ceiling revealed; the beautiful original floors have been restored as well. She has added to the improvements by building private fitting rooms at the rear of the space. It pleases her that this century+ old building has not been lost, and she is delighted to occupy one of the few anchor buildings that are still being utilized in Shinnston.
“I love this community and love the fact that customers find my store inviting. I also believe that this great community has a lot to offer and I enjoy being a part of that. I don’t want to move again and I don’t want to ever leave Shinnston. I also hope that my children will want to remain here as well,” she added.
The clothing available at B3 Styles she chooses herself and purchases wholesale from manufacturers and distributors at markets. She looks for fabrics that are not only stylish but comfortable too. “I want my customers to know that they do not have to be uncomfortable in order to look good!” she stated. “My theme is “Collected Style for Self & Space”, and people will find items to wear as well as to live in.”
B3 Styles not only features fashionable clothing for women, but menswear is sold as well. Home Décor has been another addition and. visitors can find furniture, tabletop items, lamps, candles, floral displays, and artwork – with some items made here locally! For example, local resident Shari Barnes, who for a while owned and operated MADE, LLC in the downtown area, also contributes some of her tee-shirts and sweatshirts that will change with the seasons. Customers will find some of Shari’s floral arrangements, and jewelry too. Another local ,Andrew Kisamore, displays some of his artwork there as well. Bridgeport resident Kate Keys, of “Kraving Krumbs”, offers some of her delicious sour dough pastries for sale there too … and another Bridgeport resident Alexis Davis has clean laundry detergent, non-toxic carpet fresheners, and air fresheners she makes in stock there as well – with some body products coming soon! There are many unexpected surprises if you visit and browse at B3 Styles’ new location that have caught the eye of shoppers outside of Shinnston too.
Shannon cautions, though, that although she stocks clothing (comfortable clothing for every day or a special occasion, in a variety of sizes from X Small to X Large, she purchases, unlike big box stores, just a few of each size so that you won’t see many wearing the same thing you’ve chosen! And check out the purses and accessories too!
One area in the rear of the store often features a rack of reasonably priced sales items; and a kitchen area has been added in the space too for prepping light refreshments that are served on Ladies Night, which is held every 3rd Thursday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. Those attending see special collections, enjoy snacks and a positive environment. Shannon is also looking forward to hosting Pop-Up night events in the near future with other local businesses participating.
