Members of SVFD brought back the excitement of a Christmas tree lighting in the downtown area this year. They traveled to the Sutton, WV area and visited Berry Fork Enterprises to retrieve a 14-foot tree that was erected and lit on the stage on Pike Street. Berry Fork owners, by the way, ‘gifted’ the tree to SVFD for their generous flood relief efforts following the summer flooding in southern WV. Mr. & Mrs. Santa participated in the tree lighting and visited with children following the community Christmas parade. The Shinnston Volunteer Fire Department also hosted a ‘Breakfast with Santa’ during December at Ten House. Firefighters and officers constructed a fireplace and decorated it so that families attending with their children would have the opportunity for great photos with Santa. About 40 children – along with their family members – attended the pancake breakfast. The children could also participate in a craft activity and a story-time was also available. SVFD has kept Mr. & Mrs. Santa quite busy during the holiday season!
