Tee It Up!

Bel Meadow has hosted a number of premiere events
over its history.

By Bill Nestor

This week’s edition of Tee It Up took us to Mount Clare to Bel Meadow Golf Course. The Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed course has been home to some of the biggest tournaments in Harrison County history. Bel Meadows was also a former host to the West Virginia Open.

This old school tract offers par 72 and ranges over 6,800 yards from the blue tees. The lengthier holes are included in the par 5s where three of the four are 514 yards or more, including the 601 yard sixth.

The layout provides several scoring opportunities as it is a “what you see is what you get” course. They don’t pull any punches with a bunch of blind spots here. There is water on several holes, which provides several risk versus reward scenarios. The more aggressive a player is off of the tee, the more scoring chances there are to be had.

Several undulating greens are extremely protected by oversized intimidating bunkers. Accuracy on approach shots is crucial if birdie hunting is the objective.

The 19th hole offers an indoor/outdoor venue to kick back and recap your round. The staff is friendly and the pro shop has everything that is needed for a fantastic round of golf. Bel Meadows golf course is a place to get in a fun day with family and friends!
