Tee It Up!

This week’s edition of “Tee It Up” takes us to Mount Clare, just outside of Clarksburg, to the historic Bel meadows Golf Course

This 18 hole par 72 that ranges 7000 yards from the tips opened in 1966 and was designed by Robert Trent Jones.

Bel Meadow has been the host of several big events throughout the years such as the West Virginia Open with previous winners including Sam Snead.

Well-placed hazards, glasslike greens that are protected by bunkers, and huge timber provides a challenge to even the lowest handicap golfer.

The round starts out easy enough with the double digit handicap holes, but business picks up later on the front side. Holes six, seven, and eight are the fourth, sixth, and second hardest on the course. The entire back nine keeps golfers on their toes and number 17 is the signature hole of this legendary tract. A dog leg left over water is a true risk-versus-reward off the tee.

You won’t believe the staff here at Bel Meadow and the 19th hole offers an inside/outside option to have a cold beverage and replay your round. The pro shop has all of your needs for your round covered. If there isn’t a tournament being played, the course is usually easy to get around in a reasonable time, making Bel Meadows a fun round to play this golf season.
