Third Annual Dylan Jeffries Scholarship Tournament Meets With Great Success

On June 25, Sunny Croft Country Club hosted the Third Annual Dylan Jeffries Scholarship Tournament. On a picture perfect golf day, 13 foursomes joined together to celebrate the life of Dylan Jeffries, the senior football player who passed away three years ago after collapsing during a football game between South Harrison and Lincoln High school. He never regained consciousness.
The proceeds from these tournaments go to the Dylan Jeffries Foundation, which awards annual scholarships to students who have excelled academically and who show economic need. At tee-time, even with a few outstanding pledges, officials believe this year’s tournament will certainly exceed last year’s amount of $7,000.
This year’s winning team has been nicknamed “The Four Horsemen” after having won last month’s West Virginia Chief of Police Tournament, also held at Sunny Croft. However, due to other commitments, two of the original members could not participate. The two substitutes, Randy “Rooster” Williams and John “The Shetland Pony” Cool, (new members of the team are always given nicknames!) stepped up and maintained the dominance of the Horsemen with a winning score of 17 under par.
Although it conditions were foggy as the 13 teams teed off, later in the day, it became sunny and very humid.
All participants were provided snack bags, complimentary pizza, free beverages, and opportunities to win a multitude of prizes provided by the tournament committee. Dixon Golf provided two extra opportunities to win valuable prizes by holding skill contests on a Par 3 and Par 5. Prizes included a sleeve of Dixon golf balls and a $500 driver or $500 watch. Dixon also provided gift certificates for a variety of other items. For allowing Dixon to participate, they returned a significant portion of the proceeds donated by the golfers on those two holes.
Sunny Croft Country Club is looking forward to hosting the Fourth Dylan Jeffries Tournament next year, perpetuating the memory and life of Dylan Jeffries, and to see deserving students in Harrison County and other West Virginia counties receive some financial assistance while pursuing their dreams.
