Some people leave behind cars, books, furniture, and photographs. Stanley “Mac” McIntire Sr. left behind something even greater; a legacy of faith, service, hard work, and a family that was forever shaped by his love.
Stanley, 85, of Shinnston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of those who knew him best.
Born in September 1940, in Enterprise, West Virginia, Stanley was the son of the late Howard and Wanda McIntire. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Gloria Jean McIntire, as well as his siblings Betty, Irene, Lloyd “Sonny,” Mary, and Ruth Ann. As the last surviving member of his immediate family generation, Stanley carried with him a lifetime of memories, stories, and traditions that connected generations of the McIntire family.
To know Stanley was to know a man who believed in serving others. He honorably served his country in the United States Army as a Medic Specialist for more than twenty years, including two tours during the Vietnam War. Even after retiring from military service, his commitment to helping people never ended. He continued serving others through several careers before retiring from the Department of Veterans Affairs, where he worked as both a Health and Pharmacy Technician, caring for fellow veterans with the same quiet dedication that defined his life.
While Stanley was proud of his military service and career, his greatest joys were found in the simple things. He loved being outdoors, tending his garden, working in his shop, and creating things with his hands. Whether building, repairing, planting, or helping someone in need, he found purpose in hard work and satisfaction in a job done right.
His faith though was the foundation upon which he built his life. A devoted member of Shinnston Church of the Nazarene, Stanley faithfully served his church family for decades. One of his greatest points of pride was helping physically build the church itself; a fitting reflection of a man who spent his life building things that mattered. Through his service, generosity, and servant’s heart, he helped build not only a church, but a community of faith that continues to impact lives today.
Above all else, Stanley loved his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose steady presence brought comfort, wisdom, and strength to those around him. He taught by example, through hard work, integrity, faith, and most importantly, unconditional love. The lessons he passed down and the memories he created will continue to live on through the generations that follow him.
He is survived by his longtime best friend, Josephine Smith; his children, Stan McIntire Jr. and wife Brenda, Wyman McIntire and wife Nieva, and Wanda Taylor and husband Jeff.
He also leaves behind a treasured legacy through his grandchildren: David, Zach, Mikey, Marra Beth, Andrew, Matt, Ashlea, Ariel, Carl, Adrian, Revy, Gloria, Marissa, and Nikki; and his great-grandchildren: Tripp, Garrett, Grant, Callie Brooks, Maeve, Banks, Liam, Joseph, Giana, Bianca, Ariah, Waylen, Evelynn, and Sutton, along with many extended family members, friends, neighbors, and church family who will miss him dearly.
Family and friends will be received at Harmer Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026. Following Stanley’s wishes, he will be cremated.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shinnston Church of the Nazarene in honor of Stanley’s lifelong faith, service, and commitment to his church family, or to a charity of your choice.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Stanley’s work here is complete. The gardens he planted will continue to grow, the things he built will continue to stand, and the faith, love, and values he instilled in others will continue to guide those who were blessed to call him husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His was a life well lived, and a legacy that will endure for generations.
