The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary Departments of West Virginia, 3rd District, held their annual fall conference on Saturday, November 4, 2023.  The conferences were held at the Upshur County Senior Center and hosted by Buckhannon American Legion Post 7.  The meeting was opened with prayer by 3rd District Commander, Mike Wallace, followed by a joint session.  The guest speaker for the joint session was Dr. Rob Kauffelt, Chaplain West Virginia Veterans Nursing Home, Clarksburg, WV.  The groups adjourned to conduct their individual business meetings.

American Legion Auxiliary 3rd District Vice President, April Wallace, was presented with the gavel by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 7.  The meeting was opened with a prayer by 3rd District Chaplain, Betsy Turner, followed by the “Pledge of Allegiance” and recitation of the “Preamble to the American Legion Auxiliary Constitution” and “Mission Statement”

During the meeting the members voted on a donation of $50 toward President Debbie’s special project, American Legion Auxiliary Rhododendron Girls State, held at Davis and Elkins College during June each year.  Members also received a special call from 3rd District President, Kim Mellie, who was coaching her soccer team to the State Championship, wishing them a good and productive meeting.  Auxiliary members in attendance were from Buckhannon Unit 7, Shinnston Unit 31 and Morgantown Unit 174.

Following the business meeting a luncheon of pork bar-b-que and a variety of salads and desserts was served.  There were 50 attendees.  Door prizes of fall mums were awarded to auxiliary members attending.
