Andrew H. “Spike” Cox, 73, of Anmoore, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at United Hospital Center.
He was born October 23, 1943, in Weston, WV, a son of the late Albert W. and Martha Lorraine Payne Cox.
He is survived by his only daughter, Melinda Bragg and husband Mike of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Trent, Alaia, Derek and Kiera; two brothers, Albert N. Cox of Clarksburg and Allan J. Cox of Hedgesville; one sister, Martha L. “Marty” Holley of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews.
Andrew was a graduate of Bridgeport High School with the Class 1962 and attended Fairmont State College. He also trained and became an accomplished laborer. He was skilled as a mechanic, welder, plumber, carpenter, and electrician and applied these talents in the construction field. During his lifetime, Andrew was employed by Union Carbide Corporation in Anmoore and Mathieson & Hegler Zinc Company in Spelter. He also enjoyed training people at several area sheltered workshops.
Andrew was an avid reader, and his hobbies included interests in stained glass design, hunting, target shooting and collecting tools. For the past few years, Andrew was a resident of Clarksburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where he was named Resident/Volunteer of the Year and was crowned King of the Center’s Prom. He loved the staff and residents there and that affection was returned. Andrew was a doting grandfather and a thoughtful and caring human being who was always eager to help others. He will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends.
