Big Elm Students ‘Shine’ At Harrison County Social Studies Fair

First place winners will move on to compete in the Regional Social Studies Fair in the spring.

The Harrison County Schools Social Studies Fair was held on December 10, 2016 at the Robert C. Byrd Aerospace Education Center.

Over 90 individual and group projects were on display and judged with the top three in each category receiving awards.  The first place winners at the county level will compete at the regional Social Studies Fair in March.

Big Elm Elementary School entered four projects in the County Social Studies Fair.   These students were First Place winners at the Big Elm Social Studies Fair on November 2, 2016.  All four of the Big Elm projects placed in the top three in their respective categories.

Five Big Elm students were crowned County Champs and will move on to regionals.  1st Place group project in U.S. History “9-11: The Day That Shocked the World” by Team Towers consisting of Grant Nuzum, Maddox Perine, Jimmy Moore, and Austin Eddy.  1st Place individual project in U.S History “The Assassination of JFK” by Sierra Melendez.  2nd Place individual project in State and Local History: “Phebe Cunningham: A Woman of Courage” by Danica Gherke. 3rd Place individual project in World History: “The Titanic Tragedy of 1912 by Xavier Gaston.
