On May 18, the city hosted this season’s first Wind Down Wednesday. The evening kicked off with tunes from Last Year’s Model, and the Green Space was filled with melodies of songs like “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” and “Stacy’s Mom” to set the mood.

Wind Down Wednesday is the city’s attempt to bring the community together to hang out, reminisce, and enjoy good food and drinks during the week.

Brendan Gallagher, lead singer of Last Year’s Model, said, “It was a little nerve-wracking with the weather, but we were happy to get to play as long as we did and kick off the Wind Down Wednesday series for 2022.”

Despite the forecast, the citizens did not stray from the Green Space. They mingled with close friends, shared a bite to eat from Heavenly Hoagies, and tasted some of Casey’s Restaurant’s new craft beer: Big Timber Porter.

Generations of all ages and some adorable pups came out to the Green Space to enjoy the laid-back evening and catch up with old friends. Conversations of high school memories, weekend plans, and travel stories filled the air.

Mayor Patrick Kovalck reflected on the evening. “The weather did hold out for us, though at 6 p.m. we all had our doubts,” he said. “There was a nice crowd there, and we all had a great time catching up with our neighbors. The band, Last Year’s Model, provided a great and entertaining show. With the threat of rain, I decided to leave my MG convertible at home, but we did have a small turnout of antique vehicles. We are excited about the 2022 WDW season and look forward to seeing everyone next month!”

For June’s Wind Down Wednesday at the Green on June 1, Byron Cooper will be taking the stage.
