Helen Louise Harbert, 93, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Tygart Center in Fairmont. She was born August 1, 1930 in Fairmont, a daughter of the late Cecil Owen Long and Thelma Zuspan Wood. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents who raised her, C.E. “Dick” and Emma Zuspan.

She is survived by her two sons, Gary Harbert and his wife Cindy of Anderson, SC; Danny Harbert and his wife Karen of Fairmont; her grandchildren, Steven Marshall Harbert and his wife Angela of Barrackville; Mary Desiree Harbert of San Antonio, TX; and Richard Lee Harbert of New Mexico; nine great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and grandparents, Helen was preceded in death by her grandchildren, William Edmond Harbert and Melissa Kay Harbert; her brother, John Wood; and her former husband, Bill Harbert.

Helen was a 1948 graduate of West Fairmont High School and went on to graduate from Bowling Green Business University in 1950. She loved to paint and watch the Bob Ross television show. She was a member of the New Life Ministries Church where she enjoyed singing and playing the organ. She was also active in the church’s food pantry.

Friends will be received at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston, on Tuesday from 2-8 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 24th, at 11:00 am with Pastor Charles Chipps officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
