 “Briefs” is a calendar of events listing provided free of charge to churches and non-profit organizations.  Items will be published one time only and will be listed in the order in which they occur.  Please submit your ‘briefs’ two weeks prior to the event. BRIDGEPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY

Teen Movie: Passenger (2016) (PG-13) – Monday, May 1st, 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm for teens ages 13-19. Pizza & refreshments will be provided. • The Colorful Yarns – Tuesdays, May 2, 16, & 30 at 6:30 pm. • Story Laboratory: Teacup Gardens – Thursday, May 4th at 6:00 pm for children ages 4-12.  Registration required. • Kids’ Movie Night: Pete’s Dragon (PG) (2016) – Friday, May 5th at 6:00 pm for children ages 4-12. Registration is required. • Book and Barks – Saturday, May 6th from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, registration required.  • Contact Amy at the library at 304-842-8248 for information or to register.


PARKINSON SUPPORT GROUP

The North Central WV Parkinson support group will hold their monthly meeting on Saturday, April 29th at the Eat-n-Park restaurant in Bridgeport. Guest speaker will be Jim Salai, instructor for Rock Steady Boxing.  For those who would like to have lunch, the room is reserved from noon to 1 pm and the speaking will begin at 1 pm.  There is no cost to join the group and anyone interested in more information may contact Tracey Robertson at 304-363-1028.


MONEY SMART WEEK 2017

You’re invited to a community event…Money Smart Week 2017 at the Salem Genesis Center on Friday, April 28th from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, presented by the WV Medicaid Fraud Control Unit on financial exploitation.  Light refreshments will be provided.  Free to the public.  Phone 304-782-3000 for more info.

LAS VEGAS NIGHT

Brookdale-Maplewood, Route 50 East of Bridgeport, will hold its 13th Annual Las Vegas Night on Friday, April 28th. Doors open at 5:30 pm.  Proceeds benefit Health Access, a United Way Funded Agency. Cost is $30 per person and includes $500 in gaming chips, gourmet buffet, 2 free drink tickets, live dinner music and access to a silent auction. Tickets now available at Brookdale or Health Access.  For more information, call 304-622-2708.

 

FLEA MARKET

Harrison County Rec & 4-H Center will hold 4-H Flea Market Saturday on April 29th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the 4-H center, Rt.19 S., Clarksburg.  40 plus tables of everything you could want. Concessions will be available. No Early Birds!

 

RAMP DINNER

There will be a ramp dinner at the Helvetia Community Hall on Saturday, April 29th from 2 to 6 pm.  Menu will include ramps, ham, fried potatoes, beans & much more.  Cost is $15 for adults and $7 for children.  Square dance will follow from 8 to 11 pm with music provided by Helvetia Star Band will the admission of $5.

 

HEALTHY KIDS DAY

The Harrison County YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day will be held at the VA Park, Upper Lot on Saturday, April 29th from 11 am to2 pm.  This FREE family event promotes being active through the summer.  For more info, call the Y at 304-623-3303 or visit the YMCA Facebook page.

 

COIN SHOW

The Harrison County Senior Citizen’s Center will host a coin show on Sunday, April 30th from 10 am to 3 pm. Free admission with 20 dealers possible.  Hourly door prizes and raffle.  Buy & sell coins, stamps, political buttons & postcards.  A coin appraiser will be available at no cost.  Sponsored by Stonewall Jackson Coin Club.

 

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS MEETING

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Clarksburg #334 will meet on Saturday, May 6th at 5:00 pm at the UHC Chapel.  A Eucharistic Liturgy will be celebrated in honor of the 99th Anniversary Court Clarksburg #334.  All members are urged to attend.  Contact Court Secretary Theresa White at 304-623-1302 with any questions.

 

GOSPEL SING

The Genesis Salem Center will host a Spring Into Fellowship Gospel Sing on Saturday, May 6th from1 pm to 4 pm in the main dining room. Food and amazing entertainment (local gospel singers) will be available.  Event is free and open to the public.  For directions or information please call 304-782-30

 

  1. GROVE RAMP DINNER

Mt. Grove Volunteer Fire Department (1671 Slaubaugh Rd., Eglon, WV) will be hosting their annual ramp dinner on Sunday, May 7th from 11 am to 3 ?  The  ALL-U-CAN-EAT menu includes, Ramps (raw, cooked, & in a unique salad), fried potatoes, tavern ham, beans, cornbread, drinks and desserts.  Adults $10, children 6-11 $5 and under 6 FREE.

DIVORCECARE SUPPORT GROUP

A 13 week DivorceCare support group is being offered at the First United Methodist Church in Shinnston.  Rev. Craig Blankenship will be the leader of the adult group and Rev. Cindy Boggs will be leading the DivorceCare Kids portion.  The group meets every Tuesday at the church at 7 pm.  Please call 304-592-0214 for more information.

 

CELEBRATE RECOVERY-SHINNSTON

‘Celebrate Recovery’ meets every Thursday at 6:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Shinnston. Everyone is welcome.
