Shinnston youth wrestlers head to state championship

Seven local boys place at regional tournament

Local kids wrestled in Region 2 at a West Virginia Youth Wrestling Association regional tournament at Spring Mills High School in Martinsburg on Feb. 13.

There are four regions and everyone who placed in the top six at regionals will all wrestle against each other at the state competition, which will be held at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center Friday and Saturday.

Bear Miker (4U, 40lb) had a first seed but broke his arm right before regionals and was not able to wrestle.

The following Shinnston boys placed while competing for the Clarksburg Panthers.

  • River Miker, 8U, 70lb, first place
  • Cameron Glaspell, 8U, 75lb, fourth place
  • Toby Prangler, 8U, 85lb, fourth place
  • Jace Poe, 10U, 55lb, first place
  • Nick Glaspell, 12U, 100lb, first place

The following Shinnston boys placed while competing with Bridgeport youth wrestling.

  • Silas Raines, 10U, 85lb, third place
  • Ryan Skinner, 12U, 75lb, fourth place
